Food works as an actor for change on many different layers. It is the expression of nature, culture, society and politics - all at the same time. Good, healthy and fair produced food should be on the daily agenda of regional, federal and municipal politics.
Germany as a democratic decision body has to ensure everyone the right (availability, access, affordability) to healthy and safe food, especially within the public care and catering sector that is to say kindergartens, schools, nurseries, hospitals and public canteens. German policy makers shall encourage citizen’s activism such as food policy councils, edible schoolyards, urban gardening activities and food sharing initiatives.
Policies shall therefore inform people about their power as consumers and the “vote with your fork” agency, facilitate and support good food choices and make nutrition and food education a substantial part of school curricula.
